Sustainability indices track the financial performance of companies selected for their economic, social and environmental characteristics via an annual qualification system.
BBVA has been a component of the DJSI sustainability index since 2001 without interruption. This index is calculated by Sustainable Asset Management, which selects the top performers in terms of corporate social responsibility from the biggest 2500 companies in Dow Jones’s worldwide indices.
Moreover since 2003 BBVA has also been a component of the FTSE index prepared by the Eiris rating agency.
The presence of a company in these indices directly influences the decisions of numerous institutional investors that link their portfolios to sustainability indices.
